Having an affair with a co worker is not something that should be commended. If you are married then this can definitely ruin your marriage. The damage to your reputation can be even worse. This can surely limit your prospects in the future. Many affairs in the office do not start in the office but on the road on business trips. So then how does one avoid an affair while on the road? Some common sense and these practical rules while traveling should help you maintain your marriage and reputation.
The first rule of traveling with those you work with is to always assume you are going to get caught. Just because you are both no longer at home does not mean that someone is not paying attention to what you do. If you are in a group then I am sure there will be some observant coworker who can and most likely will report back to your spouse of your infidelity.
The second rule is never to be alone with someone of the opposite sex. Always make sure that you meet either in the lobby or in the office that the hotel has open for you. Never meet in each others rooms. The idea is to remove any level of temptation you can.
The third rule is to make sure that you eat your meals at the bar and never just with your coworkers. The reasoning here is that you want to have a place where you can socialize with others outside of your small group.
The fourth rule is to make it obvious that you are checking in with your spouse at regular intervals. Making sure you make it obvious that you value your marriage will keep most people at bay if considering taking things too far.
The final rule to have is to always keep your contact with your coworkers as professional as possible. When meeting them anywhere on the road make sure you are dressed as if you were going to work. Never let your guard down. Letting others see how you would be in a more relaxed atmosphere can give subtle signs that an opening might be possible in the future.
Traveling for business can lead to many opportunities for infidelity. However, with these simple rules and some good judgment you are more likely to survive avoiding an office affair. While the thrill of having an encounter might seem enticing it is just not worth it.
Breaking free from an office affair is not an easy thing to do. Fortunately there are those that have done this before and succeeded.
